This year, I am the $my_title at the LSESU Economics Society, the largest academic society at the School and the only society supported by the world-renowned LSE Department of Economics. On behalf of the Society, I would like to cordially invite $school students to participate in the annual [[Economics Essay Competition for pre-tertiary students|https://lsesueconsoc.org/economics-essay-competition-2020/]] hosted by the Society. This essay competition is run in collaboration with the Centre for Economic Performance, one of the world's most prestigious economic research institutes, alongside various notable LSE professors (incl. Prof. Sir Christopher Pissarides, 2010 Nobel laureate in Economics). Entry is free, and $entry students in $school are eligible. The competition is open for submission until 1 August. <<if $alumnus isnot "">> It may seem odd to receive such an email, but many of my fellow LSE students, including $alumnus (Class of $alumnus_year) are alumni of $school. Back in $school, they were quite lucky to have been encouraged by their teachers to participate in various external essay competitions and events, which became very helpful in their university application processes. <<elseif $own_school is 0>>\<<else>>\ It may seem odd to receive such an email, but I myself am a former student from $school. Back in $school I was quite lucky to have been encouraged by my teachers to participate in various essay competitions and similar activities—opportunities which not all students are aware of. Not only did my participation develop my appreciation for economics, but it played a crucial role in my eventual decision to apply to, and study at, LSE. <</if>> We hope to encourage current $school students to participate in the competition and deepen their understanding of economic principles in the process.
